Before I get into all the top action in the league over the weekend I have to go back and mention two late games in the college ranks Saturday. Nebraska goes into Virgina Tech trying to beat a top 20 for the first time since Eric Crouch left in 2001. Nebraska had it under control until Tyrod Taylor the VT QB took over the game with only a couple of min remaining. He led his team on a great comeback drive at the end where he on the final play scrambled around for what seemed like an eternity before finding Dyrell Roberts for the game winning 11 yd TD pass. 16-15 Tech won! Nebraska had more total and rushing yards and more first downs but the two turnovers lost it for them. I noticed Nebraska fans clapping after the game not able to deny the great game they just witnessed even with their team loosing.
My Texas Longhorns struggled in their game of revenge against Texas Tech the only team to beat us last year in the final seconds. Colt completed 24-34 but for only 205 yds 1 TD and 2 ints. We were led on the ground by former Cowboy great Nate Newtons son Tre who had 20 carries for 88 yds and a TD. Tech QB Taylor Potts in his first yr starting and first time playing in Austin was impressive going 46-62 for 420 yds 3 TDs and only 1 int. We won 34-24 it was alot harder than some fans expected.
Now to Sunday and MondayNight in the NFL.
The Cinncy Bengals shock alot of people when they went into Lambeau and defeated the Green Bay Packers 31-24. Cinncy was led by the running of former UT RB Cedric Benson who had 29 carries for 141 yds (he didnt get none of the TDs Carson threw all 3). Chad Ochocinco had 4 cat for 91 yds and a TD which afterwards he did the famous Lambeau Leap! GBs running game was none-exsistant!
The Rex Ryan New York Jets come through on their promise and dominate the New England Patriots. They won 16-9 holding the Pats to NO TDs!!! The first time Bradys Pats havent done that since Dec 10th 2006 vs the Miami Dolphins. It also ended Tom Bradys 21 game winning streak. The D had Brady under pressure all day forcing him to get the ball out way before he wanted to and make bad plays. He had to throw the ball 47 times because of no running game for the second straight week. He was picked off once by Darrelle Revis who is quickly becoming recognized as the BEST CB in the NFL!!! After last week he held Andre Johnson who is in just about everybodys top 3 WRs if not #1 now to 4 cat 35 yds now this week he held Randy Moss who will be looked at as one of the greatest of all time when he is through to 4 cat 24 yds.
My Eagles got dominated in the second half in our home opener vs the New Orleans Saints led by Drew Brees. After a very good and close played first half where we were only down 13-17 we started off the second with Ellis Hobbs fumbling the kickoff which led to a Brees TD then on the first play of our next drive Kevin Kolb in his first carrer start threw an int which led to a TD and by that time it had become 13-31 and was out of hand and out of reach. Kolb did not play that bad 31-51 391 yds 2 TDs 3 ints but he was forced to throw the ball way too many times because he had little help from the D and STs. Brian Westbrook was avg 4 ypc on 13 before he left the game with an injury. Brees finished 25-34 311 3 TDs and 1 int and Mike Bell ran for 86 yds on 17 runs with a TD.
In maybe the best or at least the most exciting and physical game of the day the Houston Texans upset their rival Tennessee Titans and drop them to 0-2. 34-31 was the final score in Tennessee. Chris Johnson had a monster game running 16 times for 197 yds including a 91 yd TD one of his two on the ground and he caught 9 passes for 87 yds and a TD. His other two TDs were for 57 and 69 yds. He had 284 total yds offense but Kerry Collins (who once again should not be starting over Vince) gave no help and the D could not stop Andre Johnson who had 10 cat 149 yds and 2 TDs. Schaub was 25-39 for 357 yds and 4 TDs. The game also had the first fight of the year and watching it you could see it coming. Tenn DT Jason Jones was ejected from the game for his part in the fight and landing a punch. The crowd cheered loud for him as he left the field krunk and hyped up from the physical play.
I TOLD YALL BOYS BOUT THEM NINERS!!! COACH SINGLETARY IS CHANGING HOW THINGS HAVE BEEN IN THE BAY AREA THE LAST DECADE. 23-10 was the final with the Niners over Seattle. Frank Gore was amazing rushing for 207 yds on only 16 runs and 2 TDs. His two TDs went for 79 yds a carrer high at the time until he later in the game went for an 80 yd TD. Frank becomes only the 2nd player to have two 75+ TD runs in the same game and the 1st since 1997 when THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME BARRY SANDERS did it @Tampa Bay with 80 and 82 yds. Nate "the great" Clements broke up a pass in the endzone on 4th and 10 with 2:17 left in the game intended for TJ Houshmandzadeh. That ended any hopes of any comeback for the Seahawks.
In Chicago the Bears beat the Steelers 17-14 in a raining nasty classic game. Jay Cutler bounced back from his subpar performance last week with 236 yds on 27-38 and 2 TDs. The running game has yet to show up for the Bears this year (where you at Matt Forte... but to his credit this OLine is not that good). It was 7-7 at halftime and Pitt was back up 14-7 going into th 4th. Thats were it all went right for Chicago and all wrong for Pitt. Steelers kicker Jeff Reed missed two FGs on their last two drives that were their longest and could have potentially been their best but no points to show for it. Cutler tied the game up at 14 then on the game winning drive he went 4-4 to set up Robbie Gould for the 44 yd FG to win it with :11 left.
In San Diego the baltimore Ravens defeated the Chargers led by their amazing defense who held the chargers to 4 fgs inside the redzone with the longest being only 29 yds. THATS WHAT I CALL GOALLINE STANDS!!! Phillip Rivers did throw for a career high 436 yds. He completed 25-45 and had 2 TDs. The run game was shut down as LT missed the first game of his career. THE GREAT RAY LEWIS... FROM DA.U!!! won the game on a 4th and 2 when SD was driving for the win. He stuffed Darren Sproles for a 2 yd lose after Rivers had gotten the team all the way to the Ravens 15 yd line. Ray also forced a fumble in the game and forced Rivers to throw an interception. HE STILL THE BEST!!!
Aww the Cowboys lost their home opener in their new stadium... a stadium that is amazing might I add. 33-31 the Giants win on a last second drive by Eli Manning who was as cool and calm as ever during the drive (I guess after you do it in the Super Bowl against an undefeated team doing it in front of 105,000+ praying for your failure is nothing). Eli was 7-9 for 64 yds on the drive and overall for the game 25-38 300 yds and 2 TDs NO turnovers or costly mistakes! His main two targets were Mario Manningham and Steve Smith who both caught 10 passes Mario for 150 yds and a TD and Steve for 134 yds and a TD. As Tony Romo did everything he could to loose the game for his team. He was only 13-29 for only 127 yds and 1 TD and threw 3 interceptions. It wiped out a great game for the two running backs Marion Barber 18 carries 124 yds and a TD and Felix Jones 7 for 96yds and a TD. They were unstoppable but all for nothing because of the turnovers and lack of being able to pressure Eli. Last yr he was only sacked 27 times but 14 came against Dallas but was not brought down once Sunday Night. Dallas has no sacks through two games after leading the league with 59 last season.
Last Night on MNF my Colts amazingly beat the Dolphins after only having the ball for 14:53 the lowest time for a team that won ever! 27-23 was the score after Miami killed us on the ground esp with the wildcat just basicly manhandling us with Ronnie Brown who ran for 136 yds on 24 carries and 2 TDs and my boy Ricky Williams helped out with 69 yds on 19 runs. Ted Ginn Jr (who to me sucks up until this point of his career but did play well last night... ha until it mattered) had 11 cat for 108 yds but dropped a pass in the endzone that could have won the game with seconds remaining. The great Peyton Manning was inspired by his little brother the night before and he led the Colts on a game winning drive that only lasted 3 plays. He started the game off with an 80 yd TD pass to Dallas Clark who had an huge game with 7 cat 183 yds. Pierre Garcon a 2nd yr WR who the team feels can be somewhat like Reggie Wayne won the game on his only catch of the game, a 48 yd screen that he took to the house. Peyton finished with 303 yds on only 14-23 passing and those two TDs. Peyton also passed Johnny Unitas for the most wins in franshise history by a QB with 119.
Siging out DaKING, Jody-Jo.....YEZZIR!!! BALEE-DAT
